In 2011, Orbital Networks invented the "Smart router". A device that combines several units into a high quality comprehensive home networking unit that includes equipment drivers for just about anything, more connectors than you'll ever need, highest speed WiFi and Ethernet, internal disks, media server that works throughout the house, automated interfaces that do the work for you and a sleek design in a high quality woven carbon fiber casing.

Tri-Frequency WiFi

Orbital Network Routers have 3 operating frequencies for WiFi; 2,4Ghz, 5Ghz and the new high speed 60Ghz frequency. This corresponds with the a,g,n and ad WiFi standards.

All of these frequencies are capable of operating simultaneously, without interfering with each others speed or bandwidth. The system will automatically select the best and fastest frequency available and send the information that the receiving machine can understand so if you have an older laptop that is not yet outfitted for 60Ghz, no problem; just switch on, log on, surf on....

WiGig 802.11ad draft

WiGig is the commercial name for the new draft 802.11ad high speed WiFi. The draft standard does not specify a real target speed and the first emerging radios capable of transmitting on this frequency had a data speed of around 2,5Gb/sec. Orbital Networks routers use a more developed antenna and data frequency compression system that allows us to have a standard speed of up to 10Gb/sec and that is the fastest signal anyone has ever managed to achieve.

You can back-up your home office in seconds while your kids are playing video games over the internet just as your wife enjoys Clark's "Frankly my Dear..."

Compatibility

WiFi equipment comes in all colors, makes and sizes and although they are all said to be compatible... some are more compatible then others... This often results in lower speeds, missing functionalities, failed connection attempts or just Poltergeist weird things.

Orbital Networks "Smart routers" are shipped with the largest possible collection of open source drivers, pilots and radio software. Our products are compatible with over 90% of the worlds existing WiFi equipment, you will get used to it really fast. Regular automated maintenance updates ensure that your router will always know how to help you, without you having to ask.

1080p Render Engine

Smart routers from Orbital Networks are really that smart; Converting, subtitling and adding DTS HQ sound to not just one but two (2) simultaneous different streams that you can project to several independent screens, monitors or projectors. People can watch a movie on the home cinema while you treat yourself in the den to that new release of Casablanca, all from the same disk, all 1080p in DTS surround sound.

And yes, because of the high transmission speeds you can pause, fast forward, image in image etc; no hick ups, no corrupt files, no hick-ups.

Media Server

The media server is a management system that enables to present a video, subtitle and sound file to a so-called "renderer", usually a home cinema system or a game console. The renderer is merely a transit vehicle but the media server is the vitally important part; literally hundreds of different video codecs, a jungle of sounds formats and even more video compression formats. With a Smart Router from Orbital Networks, those nasty "wrong format" messages are but a bad memory.

Long Range

One of the limitations on the new 60Ghz signal is the laws of physics; the higher the frequency, the higher the absorption rate from the atmosphere... In real life read; cigarette smoke, water vapor from your tea cup, glass panes, walls, wooden staircases....

The industry leaders want you to adopt their solution; live with it ranges of 6m or less.

We at Orbital believe that you lead the market, not the other way around and if to be of any use at all; the new WiFi signal should be at least as capable as the current state of the art. With phased array antennas and very focussed beams of data we have attained the range of 30m at 60Ghz, leaving the big corporates behind. It still is your market, and your choice.

Identity/security protection

The 60's was about civil rights, today it is the right to privacy and the protection of data. Your personal data is lying around in thousands of little files, envelopes, cell phones, web browsers... Identity theft is the fastest growing type of crime in the US. Traditional firewalls on older routers do not protect your personal data. Our Smart Routers use hardware/software combined firewalls, virtually impossible to crack with changing encryption keys, your life and privacy are safe with us.

Solid State Hard DIsks

Smart Routers from Orbital Networks often come with internal storage capacity making them truly storage routers. To give the discerning user even more choice we have given our customers the choice to integrate the new SSD or Solid State Disk Technology into their new routers; no mechanical moving parts, the shortest possible access times and fully implemented RAID support.

Connectivity & interfaces

Most routers come with a single USB exit, if you are lucky. One wonders why since there are no pilots provided to make these ports recognize much more than an outside disk only useful for archiving seen the snail like pace of the port. Our Smart Routers turn your router into a real docking device; HDMI outputs, USB 3.0, FIrewire, Thunderbolt, Bluetooth, eSATA and optical coaxial in the near future.

That pus the thousands of included pilot softwares make any plasma screen, camera, printer, fingerprint reader and whatever you want to connect; a truly plug and play experience.

Speed

WiFi at 10Gb/sec and even Ethernet at 10Gb/sec are but the theory on a piece of paper. Total speed of a system is measured in true performance, not just paper data and this is where Smart Routers really stand out.

The switching backbone of our Ethernet ports are big enough to support all ports operating at full blast so 6 ports at 10GB means an optical switch that can handle 65GB/sec, not half of that.

For the WiFi a similar principle applies; go to your local coffee shop and see how the WiFi collapses as users add-on to the system, this is because the backbone was not built for the intended use but for cost saving. Orbital uses a chirped signal that puts every user on a slightly different harmony or frequency so that there is no conflict to resolve between the different signals. No matter how many users; you will never feel the difference, enjoy.

We use Intel because it has the quality you want, it is a supported product with growth capability and with literally millions of software applications are written for it.

This means that whatever you use or plug into your Smart router, the processor inside knows how to deal with it and you can focus on enjoying the experience, nothing less.
